will help keep species from becoming endangered. Their programs
encourage protection of entire ecosystems and interconnected habitats
while protecting predators that serve as indicator species for ecosystem

The Food Chain
All living things depend on each other to live.
The food chain shows how some animals eat other animals to survive.
While being food for animals higher in the food chain, these animals may
eat other animals or plants to survive. The food chain is a complex
balance of life. If one animals source of food disappears, such as from
over fishing or hunting, many other animals in the food chain are
impacted and may die. This link looks at two examples of food chains,
one in the water and the other on land.

Fish and Wildlife Foundation
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF)
is a nonprofit organization that was established by an act of Congress
in 1984 and is dedicated to promoting improved conservation and
sustainable use of our nation's natural resources. Its goals are
conservation education, natural resource management, habitat protection,
ecosystem restoration, and public policy development. NFWF meets these
goals by developing partnerships between the public and private sectors
and supporting conservation activities that address the root causes of
environmental problems.
National
Resource Defense Council
The Natural Resources Defense Council's purpose is
to safeguard the Earth: its people, its plants and animals, and the
natural systems on which all life depends. They work to restore the
integrity of the elements that sustain life -- air, land, and water --
and to defend endangered natural places in ways that advance the
long-term welfare of present and future generations.
National
Wildlife Federation
The nation's largest member-supported conservation
group. Through activism, advocacy and litigation, NWF helps people
protect the wildlife, wild places and resources we all must share.
Activism begins at the grassroots level by providing people with the
knowledge and resources they need to make a difference. Through advocacy
within the state and federal government they bring a common-sense
discussion of conservation policies to the American public. And they
ensure the development and enforcement of effective conservation
policies that protect the health of people, wildlife and natural
resources through litigation.
New
England Aquarium

place-making. It is essentially a re-ordering of the built environment
into the form of complete towns, and promotes the creation and
restoration of compact, walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods, towns, and
cities. These contain housing, work places, shops, entertainment,
schools, parks, and civic facilities essential to the daily lives of the
residents, all within easy walking distance. New Urbanism promotes the
increased use of trains and light rail, instead of more highways and
roads. Currently, there are over 500 New Urbanist projects planned or
under construction in the United States alone.
